THE 8 LIMBS OF YOGA
Yoga is a philosophy for a way to live your life. Therefore, there is such a thing as yoga on the mat, and OFF the mat. Session One will highlight the full practice known as the 8 LIMBS OF YOGA.
The yoga asanas (poses) are only one of the 8 limbs. Yoga is a practical science for well-being.
Ahimsa means non-harming. Gandhi made this practice famous in his non-violence quest to free India from British Rule. Ahimsa is a deep practice... for example, not smiling at someone is considered a harmful act, and has negative karmic impact. We will learn a variety of ways to live devoted to this sacred practice.
Satya means truthfulness, but not fibbing is only the surface of the practice. Satya relates to the ONE truth that lives inside each of us as the one unchanging, perfect SOURCE. Once you learn to settle your mind, and calm your emotions, your individualized inner source of TRUTH begins to live through you as YOU.
Asteya means non-stealing, yet has a much more profound meaning. Do you "rob" yourself with ideas of lack of worth? We steal from the Truth when we worry, have doubt, anxiety, depression...etc. This practice also focuses on our inner desires to learn the intention of our wants, goals, hopes, and dreams. We are known by the fruit that we bear.
This practice is about the "right use of energy" and how to be in the world, but not of it. Again, this practice deepens our relationship to our yoga practice... what is our vibration. Are we pure of heart? Are we in selfless service? This practice will help to guide you inward to discover your own true, unwavering source of abundant happiness that is pure, simple and complete.
Aparigraha, is difficult to translate, but is known as ‘non-greed’, ‘non-possessiveness’, and ‘non-attachment’. Aparigraha is a key teaching Bhagavad Gita, which is to only concern yourself with the intention of your actions. In the end, the fruit of your actions do not matter! Know your intentions, do your best, and never worry about the outcome, or what others think of you.
All fall classes are offered both on ZOOM and in person on location.
Practicing the YAMAS is a very personal experience, and will expand your consciousness. You will get to know your mind, intentions, and sense of purpose without the limitation of EGO. An inner freedom will occur, and with that... a renewal of mind, body and spirit. Additionally, if you are practicing yoga asanas on a regular basis, this course will have a great impact on your "inner" world during your sessions on the mat.
At the end of each session is time for questions and answers. We learn from each other when we share our experiences.
In addition to the weekly printed materials, you will receive weekly emails with extra tips for insight and inspiration into that week's practice.
Private Coaching mini-sessions are available at a discounted rate for enrolled students. This is available if you wish to take your practice to a deeper or more personal level.
